Stuart Sherburne, MS, DVM
Veterinarian, Orthopedic Care and Surgery at The Animal Clinic of Billings
- Advanced training in lameness, joint disease, fracture repair and developmental orthopedic disease among many other technical procedures.
- Trained under multiple ACVS surgeons, many of whom are national and international leaders in veterinary orthopedic surgery.
Dr. Sherburne has been practicing veterinary medicine for over 20 years. He earned a BS from the University of Vermont, a MS from Utah State University, and a DVM from Tufts University. His career has included work with varied species ranging from large animal medicine and surgery, wildlife consulting work with state, national and international agencies, small animal medicine and surgery and practice ownership.
As Dr. Sherburne’s career evolved, he gradually narrowed his focus to equine lameness and surgery and small animal surgery. Nearly 20 years ago, his work with a novel bone plate design in fracture repair was used as case study by the Association of Orthopedics under the supervision of a nationally and internationally acclaimed ACVS diplomate. Over the years he narrowed his focus further and he increased his training and experiences to concentrate primarily on small animal orthopedics. He feels fortunate to have been able to train under multiple ACVS surgeons, many of whom are national and international leaders in veterinary orthopedic surgery. He spent two years in small animal surgical internship and residency programs in large private small animal surgical specialty practices.
During his training, he presented research on cruciate ligament disease, meniscal injury and lameness at the Veterinary Orthopedic Society national meeting. His areas of interest and advanced training are in lameness, joint disease, fracture repair and developmental orthopedic disease. He incorporates minimally invasive techniques whenever possible and utilizes regenerative medicine when it has the potential to help patients. He also performs spinal surgery and select soft tissue procedures.
